Researcher Sarah Ferber of the Sheba Medical Center in Tel-Hashomer, Israel and colleagues say that their work could lead to treatments that allow diabetics to donate their own insulin-producing tissue. Such treatments could overcome problems with current cell replacement therapies for diabetes, which are hindered by limited availability of donor tissue and the need for immune suppression.
